IUOE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION PROJECT AGREEMENTHazmat

The National Environmental Remediation Project Agreement (NERPA) is unfamiliar with collective bargaining agreements and a unionized work force.   Due to the specialized nature of this work, many of the contractors involved are not traditional construction companies familiar with the construction trades.  Since its inception, NERPA has been implemented effectively and creatively on numerous clean up jobs in an industry that has been primarily non-union.

The NERPA implementation process is similar to the process used for the National Maintenance Agreement.  A contractor can become signatory to NERPA after requesting the IUOE, in writing and on company letterhead, to become signatory.  This agreement is administered on a project-by-project basis.  It has been determined that by not "binding" contractors to all projects, they would be more receptive to signing and implementing the agreement.

The reliability and professionalism of the IUOE's work force is necessary to encourage contractors' continued use of NERPA on future projects.
