CHRISTOPHER HANLEY, General Secretary-Treasurer

 

    

(Washington, D. C. – March 1, 2005) – Christopher J. Hanley was elected general secretary-treasurer of the International Union of Operating Engineers, effective March 1, 2005.

            A third-generation Operating Engineer, Hanley joined the union in 1988.  He is a member of Local 25 in New Jersey.

            Prior to his election to the union’s second-ranking position, he had served as an international vice president since January 2003.  He previously served as an international trustee since 2002.

            Hanley joined the International staff in 1990, working in the Construction Dept.  In 1998, he was named director of the department.  In that post, he was primarily responsible for the administration, negotiation and application of the National Maintenance Agreement, the General Presidents’ Agreement, the Heavy-Highway Agreement and the National Remediation Agreement.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the NMA.

            He also served as chairman of the committee overseeing the IUOE Organizing Grant Program.

            He is a graduate of St. Francis College in Latrobe, PA.

Headquartered in Washington, D. C., the IUOE represents 400,000 members working in heavy construction and in the operation and maintenance of commercial complexes and buildings, as well as in other occupations, in the U. S. and Canada.
