Welcome to Operating Engineers Local Union #3 Heavy Equipment Operator Training School located in Rancho Murieta, California.  The training center is comprised of 80 acres dedicated to the training of apprentices and journey level operators.  Our California State and federally approved Apprenticeship Program is overseen by 2 complementary directors, who, in conjunction with 14 credentialed instructors, 12 coordinators, and an administrative staff, coordinate training on over 100 pieces of equipment.  The Training Center includes a full-service 12,000 square foot cafeteria, dormitories for housing 144 apprentices and journeymen, 14 classrooms, a computer lab, and a full-service, state-of-the-art maintenance shop, all of which allow us to train year round. The goal of Local 3's heavy equipment operator training school is to provide the most up-to-date training utilizing the newest instructional methods, technology, and equipment. We have installed 2-way radios on all training equipment and provide both Trimble and TopCon GPS systems training for machine control and grade settings.

The equipment fleet includes 7 compactors, 2 track loaders, 2 skip loaders, 2 skid steer loaders, 9 dozers, 2 water pulls, 4 conventional scrapers, 9 wheel loaders, 4 self-loading scrapers, 4 excavators, 5 backhoes, and 8 motor graders.

OE 3’s heavy equipment operator school includes a 6,400 square foot state-of-the-art Maintenance Facility. Engines, powertrains, electrical, electronic and hydraulic training in two shops totaling 8,000 square foot. Use of simulator boards and real equipment is emphasized, as well as laptop computers to communicate with the equipment. Our 2,400 square foot welding shop has a retractable fume extraction system with 8 welding booths.

The crane yard has 7 conventional cranes, 3 tower cranes, and 7 hydraulic cranes for crane training and CCO testing.

A 32 square foot contained mobile classroom complete with tables and chairs for 8, an LCD projector, a VCR/DVD player, laptop computer, and a built in sound system allows OE 3 to train almost anywhere.
