What can I learn in the Stationary Engineering trade?

You can learn the skills needed to gain entry level employment as a Stationary Engineer. You can be instructed in a number of areas of expertise, including safety, use of trade-related hand and power tools, maintenance and operation of refrigeration units along with safe handling in the storage, recovery, reclaiming and recycling of refrigerants. Additionally, you can learn how to identify, adjust, and replace wall thermostats, troubleshooting and repair of electrical components, boiler service and repair, pump installation and repair, and working with fire suppression systems and automated fire control units. You can receive hands on training as well as classroom training where you can learn how to read blueprints and schematics and work with electricity.


How much money do Stationary Engineers make?

Stationary Engineers who start as apprentices can make $10 to
$12 per hour
to start. After completion of the apprenticeship, you can make up to $25 per hour. Your salary will be dependent on how skilled you become at Job Corps, your apprenticeship experience and where you begin working.

You can train for this trade at Woodstock Job Corps Center in Woodstock, Maryland and at Connecticut Job Corps Center in New Haven, Connecticut.
