What can I learn in the Surveyor trade?

You can learn entry level skills in the field of surveying. You can learn the various types of surveys, survey terminology, how to care for survey equipment, and how to organize a survey crew. You can achieve basic skills such as identifying and driving stakes, setting of witness stakes, using hand and arm signals, and pacing. In addition, you can have the opportunity to gain advanced skills such as the use of total station electronic distance meters, distance meters, automatic levels, theodolites, prisms, and radial taking and topography. When you have completed the trade, you will have achieved 500 to 1,500 hours of on-the-job experience and extensive, trade-related classroom training.


How much money do Surveyors make?

Surveyors who start as apprentices can make as much as $28,000 per year with steady increase to $56,000 per year after the four year apprenticeship is completed. Your salary will be dependent on how skilled you become at Job Corps, your apprenticeship experience and where you begin working.
