James M. Sweeney
General Secretary-Treasurer
Elected as General Secretary-Treasurer in 2021, he previously served as an International Vice President since 2009. He is Chairman of the Midwest Operating Engineers Fringe Benefit Funds, and Chairman of the Apprenticeship Fund Board of Trustees. He also serves on the Executive Boards of the Chicago Federation of Labor, the Chicago and Cook County Building Trades Councils, and the Illinois Operating Engineers' State Council. He joined Local 150 in 1979, and in 1987 became its first full-time organizer. He was elected Local 150 Vice-President in 2001, and has been Local 150's Business Manager since 2008.
