John L. Downey
General President
Elected General President in January 2025. He became a member of Local 542 in eastern Pennsylvania, by assisting the Local in organizing his employer. Over his career, he gained hands-on experience in industries like concrete, concrete crushing, and sand and gravel pits. In 2005, he became a Business Representative for Local 542, and in 2010, he took on the role of International Representative for the Northeast Region. He became Assistant Construction Director in 2014, administering national agreements and serving on key national committees. He later served as Director of the Construction Department in 2021, Chief of Staff in 2023, and has served as General President since 2025.
