Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a 19th century achievement that broke world records for construction, including the largest concrete pour, the largest use of copper in a single structure, and the tallest statue in America. Officially known as Liberty Enlightening the World, the French-made statue of the Roman goddess of freedom took 21 years to conceive and complete (1865-1886). Designated a national monument in 1924, the statue has become a United States icon – one that IUOE Local 30 members power and maintain.
A history of the IUOE on this project
Local 825 of New Jersey member Brother Richard Kaminski replaces the torch on the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island with an exact replica of the original torch in 1985 during the statue's restoration project, which took place from 1982 to 1986.
