IUOE’s Pipeline & Energy Operations training prepares Operating Engineers to safely and efficiently perform specialized work on pipeline and energy infrastructure projects. Specialized Pipeline Training

Pipeline & Energy Operations training is developed in collaboration with industry partners and experienced pipeline professionals to reflect current job-site practices and regulatory expectations. Training is hands-on and progressive, allowing members to build skills and confidence through practical application. Instruction emphasizes real-world scenarios that mirror pipeline job conditions, with a strong focus on safety, coordination, and compliance.

• Sideboom, excavator, and dozer operations
• Trenching and excavation in varied terrain
• Slope work and rough-terrain operations
• Waterway and creek crossings
• Mat handling and temporary access construction
• Excavation around existing live pipelines
• Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) support
• Pipe handling and lifting systems
• Hydro-excavation techniques
• Safety, OSHA, environmental, and regulatory compliance

National Pipeline Training Program

IUOE supports pipeline training through the National Pipeline Training Program, developed in partnership with the Pipe Line Contractors Association (PLCA). This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to safety, productivity, and professional standards within the pipeline industry.
