Training Facilities
IUOE’s training facilities form a nationwide network designed to support trade skill development, safety, and career advancement for Operating Engineers, Stationary Engineers, and other skilled professionals represented by the union. This network delivers hands-on, real-world training that reflects the demands of modern construction, energy, industrial, and facilities operations.
Through a combination of local training school networks and the International Training & Education Center (ITEC), IUOE ensures members have access to high-quality training throughout their careers—from apprenticeship through journey-level and advanced training and certification. Local training schools deliver consistent, accessible instruction nationwide, while ITEC provides advanced, centralized training that strengthens workforce readiness across the union.
International Training & Education Center (ITEC)
The International Training & Education Center (ITEC) is IUOE’s flagship training facility and one of the most advanced training centers of its kind in North America. Located in Texas, ITEC supports advanced and specialized training that complements programs offered through local unions.
ITEC provides immersive, large-scale training environments that allow members to work with modern equipment, participate in simulations, and train in real-world conditions that cannot always be replicated at local facilities. The center also supports instructor development, advanced certifications, and industry-specific training programs.
Local Training School Network
IUOE’s network of more than 100 local union training schools across the United States and Canada serves as the foundation of the union’s training system, delivering hands-on instruction led by experienced journey-level professionals.
With classrooms, labs, shops, simulators, and outdoor training sites, local training schools provide accessible training close to where members live and work. Local schools support apprenticeship programs, continuing training, and certification opportunities throughout a member’s career.
